SMS Redirect Privacy Policy

SMS Redirect is an Android app that forwards incoming carrier SMS messages, and optionally verification-code notifications from messaging apps, to an email address through an SMTP account that you configure.
The app is designed to process data on your device and send forwarded messages directly through your chosen SMTP/email provider. The developer does not operate a server for receiving, storing, or analyzing your messages.
Information Processed by the App
Depending on the features you enable, SMS Redirect may process:
- SMTP settings: SMTP server, port, encryption mode, username, password, sender address, and destination email address.
- Carrier SMS content: sender, message body, and received time for SMS messages delivered by Android's SMS receiver.
- Verification-code notification content: notification title and text from supported messaging apps when Notification Access is granted and the notification appears to contain a verification code.
- Forwarding status: the latest local status message, such as whether a message was queued, skipped, or sent successfully.
- Advertising data: Google Mobile Ads may collect and share IP address, ad or app identifiers, interactions with the app and ads, and diagnostic information for advertising, measurement, and fraud prevention.
- Privacy choices: Google User Messaging Platform processes your advertising consent and privacy choices where required.
How Information Is Used
The app uses this information only to provide the forwarding functionality you configure:
- To connect to your SMTP server.
- To create and send email messages containing forwarded SMS content or verification codes.
- To show local status inside the app for troubleshooting.
- To avoid forwarding duplicate verification-code notifications within a short period.
- To display App Open, banner, and interstitial advertisements after any required advertising consent process.
Where Information Is Stored
- SMTP settings and email credentials are stored on your device using Android Keystore-backed encrypted shared preferences.
- Pending forwarding work may be stored locally by Android WorkManager until the message is sent, retried, or fails.
- The latest forwarding status is stored locally on your device.
- Advertising consent and privacy choices may be stored locally by Google's User Messaging Platform.
- App backups are disabled, and shared preferences are excluded from cloud backup and device transfer.
Where Information Is Sent
SMS Redirect sends forwarded content only through the SMTP server and to the destination email address that you configure. Your SMTP provider, email provider, destination mailbox provider, and any mail infrastructure involved in delivery may process the forwarded email according to their own policies.
The developer does not receive forwarded SMS messages, RCS notification content, verification codes, or SMTP credentials. Advertising-related data is sent separately to Google and its advertising partners by the Google Mobile Ads SDK; SMS and notification content is not supplied to the advertising SDK.
Permissions
- Receive SMS: used to receive carrier SMS messages from Android and queue them for forwarding when forwarding is enabled.
- Internet: used to connect to your SMTP server, send email, obtain privacy messages, and load advertisements.
- Network state: used by Android WorkManager to wait for network connectivity before sending.
- Notification Access: optional. Used only when you enable verification-code notification forwarding. This allows the app to inspect supported messaging notifications so it can detect and forward verification codes from RCS/chat messages.
Important Notes About RCS and Notifications
Android does not expose RCS chat messages through the SMS receiver API. To forward RCS verification codes, the app must rely on notification content. If notification previews are hidden by Android, Google Messages, or your lock-screen settings, SMS Redirect may not be able to read or forward the code.
The notification feature is intended for verification-code notifications. It filters for known messaging apps and code-like content before forwarding.
Data Sharing and Sale
SMS Redirect does not sell SMS content, notification content, SMTP credentials, or personal information. The app includes Google Mobile Ads and Google User Messaging Platform SDKs. Google may process and share advertising data with its advertising partners to deliver and measure ads and prevent fraud.
Depending on your region, the app presents a consent message before requesting ads and provides a Privacy choices control when required. You can also manage or reset the Android advertising ID through your device settings. Data Retention and Deletion
Forwarded email copies remain wherever your configured SMTP and destination email providers store them. To remove local app data from the phone, clear the app's storage in Android settings or uninstall the app. To remove forwarded email copies, delete them from the relevant email accounts.
Security
SMS Redirect requires encrypted SMTP transport before forwarding messages. Plaintext SMTP is blocked when forwarding is enabled. The app stores SMTP credentials using Android encrypted storage, and the credential screen is protected from screenshots and recent-app previews.
No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure. You are responsible for choosing a trusted SMTP provider, using a strong app-specific password when available, and protecting access to your device and email accounts.
Children's Privacy
SMS Redirect is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated when the app's behavior changes. The updated date at the top of this page reflects the latest version.
